WHAT'S UP

Support groups

Interim Hospice is sponsoring a grief support group in the Blacksburg area. The six-week sessions will meet each Tuesday from 10-11:30 a.m. beginning Tuesday, Oct.14. The meetings are offered at no charge and are open to anyone in the community who has experienced the death of a loved one. Contact Interim's Blacksburg office at 864-839- 1310 prior to Oct. 6 to register.

Meetings

The Cherokee County Girl Scouts will have an informational session Monday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Limestone Presbyterian Church, 101 E. Jefferies St. If you are interested in receiving information and are unable to attend the meeting, call Connelly Anne Bartle, community development manager, at 864- 208-2707.

The Republican Party will have an important meeting Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Republican headquarters on Floyd Baker Boulevard.

Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 and its Ladies Auxiliary will meet Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. All past and auxiliary members are urged to attend.

Church news

Children's Day will be celebrated Sunday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church. Everyone is invited to come join the exciting worship experience. For information, call 489-1604.

Mt. Olive Baptist Church will have revival services Sept. 22-24 at 7 p.m. Pastor Lee Byers, Pastor Mills McHam and Pastor Rodrick Oglesby will be the speakers for the week.

Special events

The Kings Mountain Historical Museum announces the opening of the annual "Honor Our Veterans Exhibit." The exhibit will run through Nov. 16. This year the exhibit focuses on the Vietnam War in conjunction with the Vietnam Combat Veterans Memorial Moving Wall that will be displayed in Kings Mountain Oct. 2-6. The Moving Wall will be located at the Jake Early Sports Complex, next to the YMCA on Cleveland Avenue, and will be open for viewing 24 hours a day. The opening ceremony will be on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. with the closing ceremony Monday, Oct. 6. at 2 p.m. The public is invited. The museum is located at 100 E.
