POLICE REPORTS
The Gaffney Police Department is investigating the theft of a truck from a West Floyd Baker Boulevard shopping center parking lot.
According to a police report, a black 2008 Dodge Ram truck was taken from a parking lot in the 1300 block between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Sept. 12. The truck, valued at $28,000, had SXT on the side of the bed and chrome rails on the top of the bed. The truck also had tinted windows.
A McKown's Mountain Road man suffered a bruise on his back when a passenger in a passing car tossed a bottle at him Sept. 10.
According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the McKown's Mountain Road man was driving a moped on Draytonville Road at about 6:30 a.m. when a black car went to pass him. An unknown man in the passenger seat of the vehicle then leaned out the window and tossed a bottle that struck the moped driver in the back.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a lottery fraud that cost a Blacksburg woman $7,000.
According to a police report, the woman told police she had entered a contest for a chance to win money and a was contacted a short time later by an unknown caller who informed her she had won $1 million. The woman subsequently was told she had to send a payment to cover the costs of check processing, and was later contacted a second time with a similar request. The woman told police she sent $7,000 but never received any of the promised winnings.
A Cherokee Avenue pawn shop sustained $400 in damage during an apparent break-in attempt Sept. 10.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, an officer responded to an alarm call at Gaffney Pawn Shop at about 3 a.m. and found a front window had been broken. Police said they also found a file on the floor and a broken door lock with file marks.
Nothing was reported stolen.
A burglar took a television and food from an East Junior High Road apartment.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone entered an apartment in the 400 block between 11:30 p.m. Sept. 8 and 11 a.m. Sept. and took a five-inch color television as well as canned goods from a pantry and frozen food from a freezer. Theft losses are estimated at $50. Police said they saw no signs of forced entry.
Five window air conditioning units and several rolls of copper wire were stolen from a Blacksburg barn recently.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the five units, valued at $1,250, and several rolls of copper ground wire, valued at $300, were taken from a barn in the 400 block of Wren Way Road between Sept. 4 and Sept. 9.
A car was reported stolen from a Marietta Avenue parking lot last week.
Sometime between 8 p.m. Sept. 8 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 9, a green 1991 Mercury Cougar was taken from a parking lot in the 100 block. The vehicle had scratches on the driver side door. It is valued at $800.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the theft of a vehicle on Star Ridge Road on Sept. 8.
According to a police report, a forest green 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS was taken from the 1000 block between 11 p.m. and midnight. The vehicle had a South Carolina license plate of AKA 278. It is valued at $1,200.
A weed trimmer reported stolen from a truck on South Granard Street was later found at a pawn shop, according to a report at the Gaffney Police Department.
A Stihl-brand weed trimmer valued at $200 was taken from a truck in the 1200 block of South Granard Street between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sept. 10. The owner of the weed trimmer told police he subsequently found the trimmer at a pawn shop and learned the seller's name. No charges had been filed as of Thursday.
Gaffney Police Department was asked to look into a missing deposit bag at a Windslow Avenue restaurant.
According to a police report, authorities were informed that one of three night deposit bags at the Long John Silver's restaurant was missing and a deposit slip for the bag, which contained $1,172, was found crumpled in a box. One of the four employees who had access to the safe quit the same day the bag was discovered missing, according to the police report. The bag allegedly went missing between Aug. 25 and Aug. 28.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported that an officer attempted to deploy his Taser stun gun in an attempt to stop a fleeing man but missed.
According to a police report, the incident occurred early Sept. 3 when a woman giving a ride to a 20-year-old man became engaged in a verbal argument that turned physical. The woman, who sustained a swollen lip, claimed the man hit her in the mouth during the dispute and threatened to hit her with a rock.
Police said the man fled on foot as they approached and that one of the officer's attempted to stop him with a Taser but missed.
Two trailer axles were reported stolen from a vacant trailer on Brook Drive.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the axles, valued at about $300, were taken between Aug. 25 and Sept. 2.
Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the vandalism of a Wilkinsville Highway School.
Police indicated the vandalism had satanic undertones.
According to a police report, two unknown white males wrote satanic numbers on the side of the Janice Ford Draytonville Elementary School and also littered the property with torn pages from a Bible. Police said the vandals also damaged two trees in the school yard. Damage was estimated at $100.
More than $8,000 in motorbikes and lawn equipment was stolen from a Cowpens property recently, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
Police reported that some time between Aug. 18 and Sept. 18, someone broke into two outbuildings on a property in the 300 block of Island Creek Road and stolen a 1982 Honda CB 750F motorcycle valued at $2,500, an 80cc Kawasaki motorcycle valued at $300, a Grasshopper 60-inch lawnmower valued at $4,500, a Snap-On tool box with assorted tools valued at $1,000, a tent and camping equipment valued at $200, a 16-foot ladder valued at $50, an Echo weed cutter valued at $100 and two bicycles.
Approximately $1,000 in stereo equipment was reported stolen from a car on Sept. 18, according to the Gaffney Police Department.
Some time between midnight and 4:30 p.m., police said an unknown person or persons broke a window of a car parked in the 500 block of Willow Street and took a CD player, an amplifier and speakers. The electronics were valued at $950 while the broken window was valued at $150.
Theft and damage losses totaled about $15,000 following the recent burglary of a Blacksburg home.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone broke into a home on Dravo Road in Blacksburg between Sept. 6 and Sept. 17. Police said the thief or thieves stole a $10,000 home security system and five security cameras, in addition to $5,000 antiques. Police noted that someone had removed the outside power meter box on the home. Police said they did recover three sets of recordings from the security systems.
The Gaffney Police Department is investigating a Sept. 17 incident during which a shot was fired through the window of an East Fairview Avenue home.
According to a police report, a homeowner in the 300 block was sitting in his home at about 10:54 p.m. when he heard a gunshot and his front window break. The man told police he looked outside and only saw one person on the road, whom he identified as a Limestone College student. Police said they went to an apartment where the student allegedly was located but no one would answer the door. Police noted that no one saw the student fire a weapon. A .22-caliber bullet was retrieved from a wall in the East Fairview Avenue home.
A John Deere lawn tractor and a push mower were reported stolen recently from a Bambi Trail property in Cowpens.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone took the green and yellow mower with a 42-inch cutting deck and 20 hp engine between Sept. 14 and Sept. 15. The mower had been in an outbuilding. It was valued at $1,950. Also taken was a Weed Eater push mower valued at $150.
