Rocky McIntosh LC runners take first place
The Limestone College women's cross country team finished first in the Limestone Invitational on Saturday morning. St. Andrews Presbyterian College won the men's race while the Saints finished seventh. The event was held on the Limestone College campus.
Catawba College took second in the women's 5K, with St. Andrews, Southern Wesleyan, and USC-Aiken rounding out the top five. Francis Marion was sixth, North Greenville finished seventh, and Piedmont was eighth. Truett-McConnell finished ninth.
Catawba's Olivia Jacobs won the women's race with a time of 18:22. Alyson Trovato of St. Andrews finished second (18:27), followed by Kelly May of Francis Marion (18:52).
Lady Saint Courtney Rankin paced the team with her time of 19:14 to take sixth. Alex Bonn finished 12th (19:44), and Amanda Clausing was 13th (19:45). Molly Reichwald took 16th (20:08), while Alex Gadea was 27th (21:03).
Truett-McConnell came in second in the men's event, followed by Francis Marion. Southern Wesleyan took fourth, Catawba was fifth, and Newberry finished sixth. Limestone took seventh, followed by North Greenville.
Sidney Rice Hilary Kiprop won the men's 8K with a time of 25:55. He was followed by three St. Andrews runners: Mitch Cooper (25:57), Pedro Tapia, Jr. (26:45), and Doug Holt (27:23).
Kevin Eagle led Limestone with a time of 29:18 to finish 23rd. Zach McKeone was 28th (29:41), Nathan Carmack was 40th (31:08), while Matt "Pedro" Hall was 43rd (31:14.58). Ken Bodamer finished 44th (31:16).
Punt, Pass and Kick comes to Gaffney
Youngsters will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when Hartzog Awards, Gifts and Jewelry host an NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass and Kick Competition on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Love Football Field. Registration will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. and the competition will begin at 2 p.m.
The event is free and open to boys and girls ages 8-15.
The top finishers from each of eight age groups at the local competition will advance to the sectional competition in Pickens.

Rocky lowers boom on Cards
Former Gaffney High and University of Miami star Rocky McIntosh had a huge day in Washington's win over Arizona on Sunday. McIntosh was credited with a team high seven tackles, three assists. He also forced a fumble and was credited with one-half of a sack.
Another former Gaffney High standout, Sidney Rice, didn't play in the Minnesota Vikings' win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
He injured his right knee a week earlier in Minnesota's game with Indianapolis.
Bulldogs take bite out of Steelers
In local youth football action, Devanta Kershaw scored three times to lead the Bulldogs to a 20-0 shutout of the Steelers.
Coach Marvin Dewberry credited the overall play of the defensive and offensive units for the win.
