Six charged in armed robberies, police looking for seventh
      The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and Gaffney Police Department announced charges Friday against six Gaffney men following a rash of wafflerestaurant robberies that occurred in Cherokee County last week. Waste Management officials to discuss project with county development board
      Waste Management officials should brace themselves for questions in an appearance today before the Cherokee County Development Board. The company announced earlier this month it wants to build a solid waste and construction debris landfill along with a modern recycling center on a 1,550-acre parcel near McKowns Mountain.

Jobless rate here nears 10 percent
      When it comes to job growth, Cherokee County appears to be limping into fall. The local jobless rate rose six-tenths of a percent from 9.1 in July to 9.7 percent in August, according to S.C. Employment Security Commission figures released Friday.

Company to build artillery range tower
      A Tampa-based munitions maker has been spending its dollars renovating an existing building into a manufacturing facility. They plan on spending $200,000 more on a new facility — a two-story artillery range tower.

POLICE REPORTS
      The Gaffney Police Department is investigating the theft of a truck from a West Floyd Baker Boulevard shopping center parking lot. According to a police report, a black 2008 Dodge Ram truck was taken from a parking lot in the 1300 block between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Sept. 12.

GHS cadets get taste of military training
      Crystal Duran's arms were still bruised and sore Tuesday morning from a strenuous weekend of scaling an eight foot wall and helping roll several logs along an obstacle course. Duran was among 44 Gaffney High Junior ROTC cadets who spent Sept. 13 at the Clark Hill S.C. National Guard Training Center.

Saints to hear from IPTAY
      The man who helped build one of the most successful athletic booster clubs in college sports will speak at the Limestone College Saints Club meeting this month. Bert Henderson, the Executive Director of Clemson University's IPTAY Club will be in Stephenson Dining Hall on Wednesday, September 24 at 12 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
