History and Arts Museum hosts 'green' day as part of Michael Gaffney Day celebration
      The Cherokee County History and Arts Museum, 301 College Drive, is sponsoring a "green" day Saturday, Sept. 27, from 2-5 p.m. As a part of the City of Gaffney's annual Michael Gaffney Day celebration, the museum is hosting several "green" activities.

Hosts don't want friends' Darling dog in their home

      Dear Annie: We have great friends who will be staying with us next month. The problem is, they want to bring their little dog, "Darling." The dog is old, cantankerous, longhaired and given a bath only three times a year. She is incontinent and needs to be watched.

Mrs. Loftis celebrates 93rd birthday
      Minnie B. Loftis of Gaffney and the Goucher community celebrated her 93rd birthday with family members and friends. Mrs. Loftis is the daughter of the late Hosea and Macy Padgett Bright. Mrs. Loftis has five living generations, some who live as far away as Sitka, Alaska, Gainesville, Fla., New Port Richey, Fla., and Jacksonville, Fla.

      Blanton - Baker Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blanton of Gaffney announce the engagement of their daughter, Carrie Ann, to Benjamin Robert Baker of Cowpens. An outdoor wedding is planned Oct. 25 at the Blanton family farm.

     ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION TAKES PAIR ON FOUR-WEEK JOURNEY - Eddie and Debora Crocker celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Sept. 3, 2008. They commemorated the event over a four-week period by traveling to classic performances by musical legends who have survived and thrived throughout the years. The pair began the festivities by attending an outdoor concert featuring Journey and Heart. They then traveled to Charleston for a performance by Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band. They concluded their celebration in San Antonio, Texas, where they enjoyed the LaMansion del Rio, Riverwalk, the Alamo, and a performance by The Eagles.

Healing service will be included in worship Sunday at Circle of Grace
      Circle of Grace Lutheran Church will offer a healing service as a portion of its worship service Sunday, Sept. 28. "In the gospels we read how Jesus healed many people. He forgave sins, cast out demons, cured physical ailments, made the blind see and the lame walk," said the Rev. Jeff Lageman.

     COUPLE MARRIED - Valaree B. Eaker and John Lewis Peterson, both of Blacksburg, were married Tuesday, Sept. 16, in a 3 p.m. double ring ceremony at the Probate Court of Cherokee County. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson are making their home at 118 Burnt Mill Road in Blacksburg. The bride is the daughter of Pearl Batchler of Blacksburg and the late Millage Batchler. The groom is the son of the late Willie and Nuna Peterson who lived in Blacksburg.

Red Cross offers classes
      The American Red Cross, Cherokee County Service Center, will be conducting three certification courses in October. Adult CPR and Standard First Aid will be taught Monday, Oct. 6, from 6-10 p.m. Infant and Child CPR classes will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 6-10 p.m. A babysitter's training session will be held Monday, Oct. 13, from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

      The 31st annual session of the Thicketty Mountain Baptist Association and its auxiliaries will be held Sept. 27- Oct. 2. The convention will be hosted by Piney Grove Baptist Church, 2085 Mayo Road, Cowpens, where Dr. Caryer D. Rector is pastor. The theme is "Effective Christian Leadership in Transitional Times.
