Practice GED test can be taken Oct. 15

By SCOTT POWELL Ledger Staff Writer spowell@gaffneyledger.com

There are few guarantees when it comes to passing a test.

The Cherokee County Adult Education program will offer a guarantee when it gives the official practice GED on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The test will be given at 8 a.m. in the Cherokee Community Learning Center, 243 Allison Drive. The school is located off the Frontage Road behind Mr. Waffle.

"This practice test is the only official practice test that can predict your score on the GED exam," adult education teacher Beth Martin said. "The test is designed by the makers of the GED and is similar in format to what students can expect to see on the regular exam. The practice test is a good way for students to find out if they can pass the GED exam without spending a lot of money."

The cost for the practice GED is $15. Only cash is accepted.

The GED exam is a national test that allows adults to earn a high school equivalency diploma. The passing score is set at a point where four of 10 graduating high school seniors can not pass the GED exam on their first attempt.

The GED exam covers reading, writing, language arts, social studies, science and math. The practice test is roughly half the length of the regular GED exam.

"Students will receive their scores back from the practice test that day," Martin said. "This will let students know if they should go ahead and pay the $70 to take the regular GED exam. Some students may find they need to enroll in a class first to work on some weak areas identified by the practice test results."
