Worked in the foam department in textiles

BLACKSBURG - Lillian Bell Ligon, 89, of 1302 S. Rutherford St., passed away Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Born in Blacksburg, Mrs. Ligon was the widow of Brady Ligon and daughter of the late Miles and Ardella Love Bell. Mrs. Ligon worked in the foam department in textiles and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she served as a nursery worker for nearly 40 years.

Surviving Mrs. Ligon are three sons, Miles (Buddy) Ligon of Blacksburg, Charles Keith Ligon of Shelby and David Ligon of Blacksburg; five daughters, Carol Hope of Rock Hill, Linda McDaniel of Blacksburg, Debra McAbee of Union, Deloris Whisonant of Lexington and Angie Moss of Blacksburg; a sister, Ethel Guyton of Kings Mountain; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Ligon's caregiver, Rhonda Fender.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Ligon was preceded in death by two brothers, John Bell and Lester Bell, and five sisters, Clemintine Martin, Eunice Turner, Mary Spencer, Beatrice Wright and Catherine Maples.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 6-8 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary. Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Lowe, Keith Whitener and Billy Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hopewell Baptist Church Building Fund, 511 Old Chester Road, Blacksburg, S.C. 29702; or to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.

The family will be at the residence.
