Activities at area battlefields mark 228th anniversary of Battle of Kings Mountain
Cowpens National Battlefield will have special events Oct. 6
      The Overmountain Victory Trail Association, which annually retraces the 330-mile march that patriot militia took to Kings Mountain in 1780, will present a special drama on Monday, Oct. 6, at Cowpens National Battlefield about the events that took place at the Cow Pens that night before the Revolutionary War battle of Kings Mountain.

'Fall for Bingo'at St. Paul's
Event will raise funds for missions
      St. Paul's Lutheran Church is sponsoring its 'Fall for Bingo' missions fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 4, from 4:30-8 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Visitors can enjoy a hamburger and hot dog dinner with all the fixins', including tea, soft drinks and desserts. Tickets (available at the door) are $10 for adults and $3 for children.

March of Dimes will host fund-raising beauty pageant - with men as the beauties
Event guarantees some sidesplitting laughter on Oct. 25
      In looking to come up with new and inventive ways to raise funds for the March of Dimes, Leigh Ann Turner decided to add a good-natured twist. On Oct. 25 in Gaffney High School Auditorium, the March of Dimes will hold a womanless beauty pageant and the name means exactly what you might expect.

      Fund raisers Camps Creek Baptist Church will be holding a fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 4. Proceeds from the event will go to the pastor's wife, who is battling multiple sclerosis. New Harvest Ministries, 215 Pecan St., will have a yard sale and hot dog sale Saturday, Oct. 4, beginning at 8 a.m. Proceeds go to church projects.

     AT SCSHL MEETING - The S.C.Silver Haired Legislature recently held its annual three-day meeting at the State House. Speakers were Lt. Gov. André Bauer, Attorney General Henry McMaster, Rep. Denny Nelson, Sandra Olson, Glen Johnson and Johnnie Manuike. Jack Allison is the Cherokee County representative to the Silver Haired Legislature and Eloise Cook (pictured with McMaster) is the alternate delegate.
