SHELBY, N.C. - Dorothy Sparks Clary, 72, of Shelby, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 7, 1936, in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late William Douglas Sparks and Nettie Hames Sparks. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Buford Clary; four brothers, Harold Sparks, Ming Sparks, Ernest ("Bit") Sparks and Lionel ("Pie") Sparks; and two sisters, Jean Sparks and Iris Turner.

Mrs. Clary was a member of Northside Baptist Church and retired from Universal Manufacturing, where she was a lab operator for 37 years.

Surviving are a special niece, Phyllis Phillips of Gaffney; a special friend, Ken Campbell of Shelby; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 4, from 1-2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services. Services will follow at 2 p.m. in Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel, with the Rev. Neil Efird officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the charity's of one's choice.
