Southern Exposure artists exhibit at Upstairs Artspace
Two Cherokee County women, Cynthia Link and Sara Dame Setzer, are among the exhibitors
      The Upstairs Artspace in Tryon, N.C., welcomes the Southern Exposure artists' group with the exhibit "Southern Exposure Exposed." These talented, mid-career artists from the Upstate of South Carolina have been together 30 years - meeting to talk about art, giving each other support, and often exhibiting together.

Upstate BBB president speaker at AAUW meeting
      The Gaffney Branch AAUW (American Association of University Women) will meet Monday, Oct. 13, at noon at the House of Pizza, 640 E. Frederick St. Kathy Barrett of the upstate's Better Business Bureau will be the speaker for the luncheon program. She has entitled her presentation, Scam Jam; it will include a variety of topics related to financial security.

Miss Turner and Mr. Pridmore wed at Abingdon Creek Church
      Brandy Lee Turner and Jody Lee Pridmore were married June 21, 2007, at Abingdon Creek Baptist Church. Dean Painter officiated the 2 p.m. double ring ceremony. A reception followed in the church's recreation center. The bride is the daughter of Becky and Rick Wood and granddaughter of Ira Ed and Fronie Turner, all of Gaffney.

      Jonathan Edwards Owen Rev. Robert and Heather Owen of Blacksburg announce the birth of their son, Jonathan Edwards, at 11:04 a.m. on Sept.15, 2008, weighing 6 lbs. 15 ozs. and measuring 19 inches. Grandparents are Jimmy and Margaret Owen of Blacksburg and Ken and Gail Smith of Williamston.

Sept. 9 meeting begins Tuesday Woman's Club's 2008-2009 year
      The Tuesday Woman's Club met Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the home of Mrs. Bill Childers on Hillside Drive. Co-hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. Richard Lancaster and Mrs. Matthew Childers. At the beginning of the meeting, refreshments were served by the hostesses.

     MASONS RAISE FUNDS FOR MOW - Masonic Lodge No. 186 raised $2,500 for Meals on Wheels with a recent barbecue. Helping out during the event were Jack Holmes, Jimmy Phillips, Jerry Smith, Billy Humphries, Gary Martin, Randall Phillips, Dennis Sentell, Doug Lee, Joe Humphries, Robert Keller and friends of No. 186 Lodge, Fulton Strain and Scott Strain. Chris Wyatt manned the barbecue cooker while the DMW Volunteer Department's Rick Peterson donated the use of the hash cooker. Don Patton donated the food chopper. This was the third year that the Masons worked together, staying up all night cooking barbecue and hash and selling it the next day. Pictured are (l-r) Gary Martin, Todd Humphries, Jack Holmes and Jimmy Phillips.
