Upstate BBB president speaker at AAUW meeting

The Gaffney Branch AAUW (American Association of University Women) will meet Monday, Oct. 13, at noon at the House of Pizza, 640 E. Frederick St.

Kathy Barrett of the upstate's Better Business Bureau will be the speaker for the luncheon program. She has entitled her presentation, Scam Jam; it will include a variety of topics related to financial security.

According to Sara Setzer, historian for the branch, Barrett's presentations have made her a welcome and entertaining speaker in the upstate. Setzer said that the listener will garner strategic ideas for protecting one's assets and self-protection as well.

Barrett is CEO and president of the Better Business Bureau Upstate South Carolina. This BBB has a membership of more that 1,100 businesses in the 10-county upstate region.

Barrett joined the BBB staff in 1991 as manager of the Advertising Review and Autoline departments. She has since served in virtually every department of the bureau, including member services, IT, office manager, staff trainer, National Information Network coordinator, BBB Online, events coordinator, administrative assistant and vicepresident.

Born in Greenville, she now lives in Travelers Rest and holds an Associate Degree in Auto Body and Automotive Technology from Greenville Technical College. She is also a graduate from the Professional Development Program.

Barrett is married and has two children.

Anyone with an associate or baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university is eligible for membership in AAUW. For more information about the meeting or the organization, contact the president at 489-5389 or the membership chairman at 489-0826.
