Betty R. Tate

Retired employee of the McArthur family

Betty Ree Tate, 84, of 1434 N. Limestone St., widow of Elma Smith and Nant haniel Tate, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at 9:50 a.m. at Peachtree Centre.

Born on July 8, 1924, in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Davidson and the late Elizabeth Carpenter Davidson. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Dillard and Norma Jolly; three brothers, Joseph F. Davidson, Leonard Davidson and A.C. Davis; and a sister, Willie Mae Jenkins.

Mrs. Tate was a member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church and a retired employee of the McArthur family.

Surviving are two stepsons, Bobby Tate of Gaffney and John Dunn of Norfolk, Va.; four stepdaughters, Jo Ann Adams of Gaffney, Ann Grant of Detroit, Mich., Lucy Littlejohn of Norfolk, Va., and Mae Charles Dunn of New York, N.Y.; nieces she helped to rear, Catherine Jenkins, Onnie Kay Davidson, Joe Annie Davidson, Frances E. Dawkins, Betty L. Davidson, Robin E. Davidson, Cathy D. Sullivan, Tanya D. Davidson, Lisa Davidson and Willa Davidson, all of Gaffney; nephews she helped to rear, Arnold Davis, Johnny Davis and David Davis, all of Gaffney, and Joe Author Davis of Charlotte, N.C.; special nieces she helped to rear, Vicky Dawkins, Jonica Sarratt, Cassie Dawkins and Debra Dawkins, all of Gaffney; and a host of other relatives.

Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 9, at Limestone Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael L. Golden officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

The family is at the home of her niece, Joe Annie Davidson, 917 Hetty Hill St.
