Saints hammer Barton to improve to 9-1-1

The Limestone men's soccer team defeated Conference Carolinas foe Barton College 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.

Limestone climbs to 4-1-1 in Conference Carolinas play (9-1-1 overall).

Limestone outshot Barton 13-2 in the first period.

The Saints scored 70 seconds into the game when Keegan Ziada's shot bounced off the Bulldog goalkeeper. Ali Benson was there for the rebound to put the Saints up 1- 0.

Benson scored again in the 27th minute off another rebound. This time after a shot from Joel Moran bounced off the post.

Taylor Rice scored back-to-back goals, the first of his college career. His first goal in the 41st minute was assisted by Ziada, who crossed the ball from the nearside. Tom Beattie picked up the assist on Rice's goal in the 43rd minute.

Mark Johnston put the Saints up 5-0 off a pass from Stuart Wright in the 48th minute.

Barton scored both of its goals from long range, with the first coming in the 68th minute.

Kieran McGurk blasted the ball on a free kick opportunity. The Bulldogs' next goal was scored by Chris Tipp. Tipp's 45-yard shot sailed over the head of Limestone's goalkeeper in the 70th minute.

Saint goalkeeper Mark Johnston posted one save. He was replaced by H.B. Lockwood in the 62nd minute.

Barton goalkeeper Josh Cooper was credited with eight saves.

Limestone travels to Banner Elk on Tuesday.
