JN Upchurch, 75, of 614 Shelby Hwy., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born in Gaffney, he was the widower of Virginia Easler Upchurch and son of the late Robert Upchurch and Beadie Scates Up-church. He was retired from textiles and former owner/ operator of Upchurch Grocery. Mr. Upchurch was a member of Northeast Fellowship Church of God (formerly Elm Street Church of God), where he was a member of the Golden Agers.

Surviving are four sons, Michael David Upchurch of Gaffney, Roger Upchurch and wife, Renee, of Gaffney, Ricky Upchurch and wife, Angie, of Blacksburg, and Ronnie Upchurch and wife, Lynn, of Gaffney; two daughters, Kay Ruppe and Linda Griffin and husband, Carson, all of Gaffney; two brothers, John Upchurch and wife, Ruby, and Arthur Upchurch, all of Gaffney; two sisters, Betty Ligon and husband, Jimmy, of Smyrna and Nell Lanier of Blacksburg; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one greatgreat grandchild.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Upchurch was preceded in death by three brothers, George Upchurch, A.B. Upchurch and Andrew Upchurch; two sisters, Minnie Mims and Margaret Heffner; and a grandson, Micheal Ray Ruppe.

Services will be held Monday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at Northeast Fellowship Church of God with the Revs. James Garner and Stephen Anderson officiating. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 5, from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.
