Two performances of 'Power of Love' will benefit GLT

Four months after The Power of Love made its debut on the Gaffney Little Theatre stage, it is coming to "Come on Down to the Brown" as a fundraiser for the Little Theatre on Friday, Oct. 10, and Saturday, Oct. 11. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m.

The theatre uses the former Brown Furniture Building, now the property of Gaffney Little Theatre, for many of its fund-raising efforts.

The Power of Love, a romantic comedy with a much deeper spiritual meaning, was written by Gwen Jennings over four years ago, but it was never staged until this past June at GLT. Since then, it has played in at least two venues.

Although GLT has had many multi-racial plays in the past, The Power of Love is the first show with an all-black cast.

The Power of Love is a three-act modern play about the saga of the Callahan family and how they struggle with love, infidelity and trust issues. They learn to rely on God in these troubled times.

Because this play is a special fund-raiser, it is not part of the regular GLT season so memberships will not be honored.

Elizabeth Lindsey plays the lead role of Jessie Mae Bradley, with Fred and Shahina Campbell as Frank and Betty Jo Callahan. The cast also includes Rebecca Williams as Monique Callahan, Julius Tennal as Rodger Callahan, and Iesha Lindsey as Angela Callahan.

The cast is completed by Eddie Foster, Drekyria Logan, Tojuana Petty, Lydia Williams, Kim Jennings, Jason Petty, Tylan Jennings and Jaquana Belk.

Robin Smith and the Rev. Van Williams direct the play. The technical staff includes Raven Mitchem, Todd Hoyle, Keenan Corry, Gary Hopper Jr., Rebecca Mitchem and Janie Wilson.

Seating is limited to 60 people each evening for the twonight run. Reservations are not being taken for this performance.

The city parking lot behind the Brown Building is available for parking.
