POLICE REPORT

Two cars were riddled with bullet holes during a drive-by shooting in the parking lot of a West Floyd Baker Boulevard restaurant during the early morning hours of Oct. 4, according to reports at the Gaffney Police Department.

Police said the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Waffle House when a 22- year-old man in a red car opened fire on a second vehicle that had two occupants. The alleged shooter was named in the report but no arrest warrant had been filed as of Tuesday.

Police said both passenger side windows on the vehicle with two occupants were obliterated and there were two bullet holes in each right side door. An officer found five spent shell casings from a .45-caliber handgun in the parking lot.

A passenger in the car being shot at claimed he was grazed by a bullet on his right hand.

Police are treating the shooting as an assault with intent to kill.

A third vehicle parked in the restaurant lot was struck by several bullets during the incident. It had a shattered windshield, two bullet holes in its left rear quarter panel and a bullet hole in the trunk. Damage to the car was estimated at $1,000.

The Gaffney Police Department is investigating the Oct. 6 burglary of a South Logan Street business.

According to a police report, the glass door to Hari On of Gaffney, 406 S. Logan St., was broken between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. One unknown person entered the store taking miscellaneous items and a second person entered the store about two hours later taking cigars and shirts.

Altogether, police said the thieves stole about $2,550 in cash and merchandise, including $225 in shirts, $250 in cigarettes and $60 in cigars. Damage was estimated at $350.

Gaffney Police are on the lookout for a Duke Blue Devils handbag stolen from a car during an Oct. 5 vehicle break-in at a West Floyd Baker Boulevard parking lot.

According to a police report, someone smashed the window of a car while it was parked in the 1700 block and took the purse, which contained just $3 in change but also Social Security cards for the handbag's owner and three children. Four rings and a necklace also were in the purse. The car sustained $250 in damage.

A Burnt Gin Road woman sustained an estimated $1,500 in vehicle damage recently.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone poured sugar or a sugar-like substance in the gas tank of the woman's car between 10:30 p.m. Oct. 4 and 7 a.m. Oct. 5.

About $1,600 in building products were reported stolen from a Washington Avenue residence.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone took about $300 in paneling, $400 in wood, $265 in windows, $100 in paint, $500 in ladders and $60 in light fixtures from a home in the 100 block between Sept. 29 and Oct. 4.

A North Carolina woman driving on Interstate 85 on Oct. 4 claimed to police that someone tossed an object at her vehicle that caused about $300 in damage.

According to a police report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened at about 4 p.m. near the 106 mile marker in Blacksburg. The unknown object that struck the woman's truck broke a right side mirror and caused other damage.

About $1,200 in tools were stolen from a work van on West Cherokee Street.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a Dewalt miter saw, and others saws made by Makita and Black & Decker, along with a tool box containing miscellaneous tools, were taken from a van in the 1100 block of West Cherokee Street between 6 p.m. Oct. 3 and 8 a.m. Oct. 4. The items were owned by UPC Services of Gaffney.

A Spartanburg man's truck sustained about $1,000 in damage Oct. 4 on Arrowhead Drive.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, an unknown person was shooting in the area and pellets struck the man's truck.

A car was reported stolen from East Junior High Road recently.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a resident of the 400 block was out of town from Sept. 27 to Oct. 4 and discovered her car missing upon her return. Police did not list the make and model of the car in the police report. The car was valued at $1,000 while audio equipment in the car was valued at $1,000.
