Emergency workers clear the scene where a 75-year-old Gaffney woman was struck by a truck while crossing Buford Street. The accident occurred just minutes after two vehicles collided at the other side of the intersection, forcing traffic on the busy roadway to detour. A 75-year-old West Montgomery Street woman was in serious condition Thursday at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in the wake of a Tuesday mishap during which she was struck by a truck while crossing a street.

Martha Leona Goodson was crossing West Buford Street on foot at about 5:55 p.m. when police said she walked into the path of a Dodge pickup that was making a left turn from Logan Street onto West Buford Street.

The mishap occurred just minutes after two other vehicles collided at the opposite side of the West Buford and South Logan Street intersection.

That accident occurred at about 5:48 p.m. when the driver of a 1984 Ford truck headed north on Logan Street failed to stop for a stop light and collided with a 1995 Ford sedan driven by a Carver Street woman, who was headed east on West Buford Street, police said.

The collision of the two cars snarled traffic at the busy intersection, forcing a traffic detour.
