Class reunions

Calling all members of Gaffney High Class 1973. Reunion

The 2008 FII Reunion will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, in the former Rec Club at the Shelby plant. Registration begins at 2 p.m. Gene LeGrand and Carl Spangler will give a brief welcome at 3 p.m. A meal, catered by Linwood Caterers, will be served from 3:15-4:15 p.m.; cost is $10 per person or $20 per couple. Make check payable to FII Reunion and mail to Carl Spangler, 2403 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, N.C. 28150; payment must be received before Thursday, Oct. 9.

Meetings

The Tuesday Woman's Club will meet at 4 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the home of Mrs. Richard Baines. Co-hostesses are Mrs. Wayne Whiteside and Mrs. Chuck Lowry. Members are reminded to bring a cookbook to exchange.

Church news

Freedom Fellowship Baptist Church on Northey Street (just across from Cherokee Technology Center) will have homecoming services Sunday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to come enjoy a great time of singing by John Henderson, fellowship, worship, and preaching by Rev. The Praise Dancers of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will have their second anniversary celebration on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 4 p.m. New Pleasant Baptist Church, 242 New Pleasant Road, will have its 130th anniversary celebration on Saturday, Oct. 11, and Sunday, Oct. 12. Saturday's events include a 5 p.m. fellowship meal followed at 7 p.m. by a praise and worship service with Ralph and Sherry Jett, Frankie Gilbert and others. Sunday's worship service begins at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thurmond Johnson, a former pastor, as guest speaker. Special music will be presented by Pam Puckett, the adult and children's choirs. A special presentation of the church's history will be given. The Women of Corinth Baptist Church will have a chicken stew fundraiser on October 11 at 190 Corinth Road in the Jackson Building (gym). We will begin serving at 4:00 p.m. and serve until we run out. The cost is $7.00 a quart. Dessert will be sold also. All proceeds will go towards our church renovation. Please call 489- 8489 for more information. Bethel Memorial Baptist Church will host an indoor sale beginning at 6 a.m. on Oct. 11. All proceeds will go to the church youth group. The church is located at 1314 Ellis Fery Road. Faith Baptist Church on 246 Ford Road in Gafney will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. Special music will be provided. The Rev. Delos Blanton will deliver the morning message. Lunch will follow at the fellowship building. Mikes Creek Baptist Church will be celebrating its 143rd church anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 12. Festivities begin at 8 a.m. with the Rev. K. Wray speaking, then at 11 a.m. the Rev. M. Henderson will preach.

The afternoon service will have the Rev. C.A. Wallace at the podium. The public is invited to attend. Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church will have an appreciation program on Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. for the Rev. Leroy Ellison and at 2 p.m. for their musicians, Jamie Davidson, Colby Rodgers and Adrien Jefferies. The 53rd anniversary of the Southland Troubadors will be held at Granard Middle School on Oct. 12.

Featured on the program are local talents the Gospel Harmonetts, the Exciting Harris Brothers, Gospel Tones, Johnny Palmer and others.

Admission for adults is $8, for children up to the age of 12 the price is $2. Doors open at 4 p.m., with the program starting at 5 p.m. Life Changers Church cordially invites the public to its annual prayer conference from Oct. 13-17. Services begin at 7 p.m. nightly.
