Residents of Overbrook Drive and surrounding streets received a frightening awakening early Thursday morning when a hail of gunfire erupted on the street.

At about 4 a.m., someone opened fire on a home in the 200 block, hitting the home five times and a parked car an additional three times.

The Gaffney Police Department recovered nine spent shell casings from the roadway. It wasn't immediately clear where the ninth bullet hit.

Two of the bullets traveled into the home, police said. No one was injured.

One bullet went through a bedroom window and lodged in a wall. Another bullet traveled through the front door, a living room wall and a kitchen wall.

Police said they found one deformed bullet lying on the floor of the home.

Police didn't comment about a suspect but a name listed as a possible shooter in a police report matched a name given by witnesses to a separate shooting incident that took place last Saturday in the parking lot of the Waffle House on West Floyd Baker Boulevard.

No arrest has been reported in that case yet.

"I was in a panic and didn't know what to do," said one resident of Overbrook Drive who was awakened by the gunfire. "It was a rapid fire. At first, I didn't know what was going on."

The resident said she peeked out her window but didn't see anyone. A few short minutes later, Gaffney Police arrived.

Homes line both sides of the block where the shooting occurred and there's an apartment complex behind the home that was struck.

During a shooting last Saturday, two men were sitting in a car outside the Waffle House at about 4:15 a.m. when another car pulled near them and someone inside the car opened fire, hitting their vehicle several times as well as another vehicle parked nearby.

Police said the shell casings recovered early Thursday morning came from a 9 mm handgun while shell casings recovered from the shooting last Saturday came from a .45 caliber handgun.

One of the victims from the Saturday incident claimed to have been grazed by a bullet. No other injuries were reported.
