Chamber to sponsor presentation on growth

"Planning for Growth for Today and for Future Generations"

Upstate Forever and the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor an important presentation on Friday, Oct. 24, in Room 209 of Spartanburg Community College - Cherokee campus located at 523 Chesnee highway.

Dr. Timothy Beatley, Teresa Heinz Professor of Sustainable Communities, at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, will present "Planning for Growth for Today and for Future Generations".

A light breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. and the presentation will begin promptly at 8 a.m. There is no charge but a reservation is required. Seating is limited so call the Chamber at 864- 489-5721 by 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, to reserve your seat.

Dr. Beatley's most recent books on this topic are Green Urbanism, Learning from European Cities, Native to Nowhere, and Sustaining Home and Community in a Global Age. Dr. Beatley holds a Ph.D in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Local government, community leaders, Realtors and developers are urged to attend and hear this important presentation.
