Habitat to dedicate neighborhood
Habitat for Humanity of Cherokee County will dedicate its newest neighborhood "Hope Acres" located off Sarratt Street and Hwy 150 on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
"We will be dedicating five new homes and our new street, Hope Acres Drive," said Dick Norris, president of the organization.
The celebration and dedication will be with the newest residents of "Hope Acres." The homes were built by the owners, volunteers from churches, civic groups, and teams from several industries. Students from Cherokee Technology Center worked on the homes as an educational project.
Christa Smith, Executive Director for HFHCC pointed out that the new neighborhood has infrastructure including a paved street, sidewalks, storm sewers and service to each of the new houses. This was provided by a $375,000 grant through the City of Gaffney from the Appalachian Council of Governments.
The project brings the number of homes built in the community to 22 with two additional homes currently being built.
Habitat for Humanity of Cherokee County is a non profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that works to build and provide decent affordable housing to families who qualify. Purchasers of the homes enjoy low monthly payments with no interest mortgages.
Christa Smith and the Board of Directors invite all interested persons in the community to come to the event to celebrate with the new homeowners and enjoy a short tour of homes as well as refreshments.
"We still need contributions to provide materials for the current new homes being built which cost about $62,000 each as well as volunteers to spend time on the work site," Smith said.
