School district bracing for budget cuts from state

      The Cherokee County School District is bracing for possible budget cuts in the range of as much as $2.3 million from the state. State lawmakers plan to hold a special session to deal with budget issues in the wake of a national economic downturn. The House Ways and Means Committee will meet Friday.

Governor tells BBQ lovers state must cut out pork

      It wasn't meant to be ironic, but in some ways Gov. Mark Sanford's visit to Daddy Joe's Beach House BBQ could be seen that way. The governor made the Gaffney restaurant one of 10 stops in 10 cities he was making across the state Wednesday and Thursday to highlight the changes he thinks need to be made to state government.

      The Gaffney Police Department is investigating another major theft of a truck and trailer. Police said a white 2008 Ford 550 Crew Cab truck towing a 25-foot trailer was stolen from 1541 Old Georgia Hwy. between 8:30 p.m. Oct. 13 and 8 a.m. Oct. 14.
