Apartment complex under construction

Low-income housing has a bad rap. If it's affordable, it's got to be ugly, right?

Not necessarily.

Greenville-based Synterra is proving otherwise.

Gaffney Zoning Administrator Tony Lavender said the developer has submitted site and building plans for an apartment project that will feature single-story and 2- story units.

The 10-units will be sizable. The 2-bedroom units will total 920-square feet, while the 1- bedroom unit will have 630 square feet.

"The apartments look very nice," Lavender said.

The apartment complex will be located at New and Kay streets.

Lavender said the city's building department is reviewing the plans. There is no word when the developer hopes to break ground on the project.
