POLICE REPORT The Gaffney Police Department is investigating another major theft of a truck and trailer. Police said a white 2008 Ford 550 Crew Cab truck towing a 25-foot trailer was stolen from 1541 Old Georgia Hwy. between 8:30 p.m. Oct. 13 and 8 a.m. Oct. 14. The trailer was hauling three commercial lawn mowers, including a Kubota GR2100 lawn tractor, a Scag Turf Tiger and a John Deere 757. The truck was valued at $40,000, while the lawn tractors were valued at $33,000. The black trailer was valued at $6,000. Last month, a truck towing an enclosed trailer hauling a vintage Pontiac Tempest race car to a race in Georgia was stolen from the parking lot of a local hotel. None of those stolen items have been reported as recovered yet. The Gaffney Police Department is investigating an Oct. 14 incident during which a Cowpens man was pistol whipped on Hetty Hill Street. According to a police report, the Cowpens man said he was standing near Hetty Hill and Granite Drive at about 7:50 p.m. Oct. 14 when he was approved by a group of four to five men. One of the approaching men then struck him in the side of the head with a pistol and took $110 in cash and an Alltel cell phone from him. More than $2,000 in lighting equipment and tools were reported stolen from a work truck on Shelby Highway during the past week. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone forced open an exterior compartment on a 2006 Ford Sterling work truck owned by Sawyer's Sign Service of Mount Airy, N.C., as it was parked in the 400 block of Shelby Highway between Oct. 11 and Oct. 14. Police said the thief or thieves stole 18 bulbs valued at $450, 10 ballasts valued at $1,800 and a 3/4 inch socket set valued at $100. A South Granard Street convenience store was the target of an attempted burglary Oct. 15. According to the Gaffney Police Department, security cameras videotaped an unknown man smashing the glass on the door of Sunny's Quick Stop at 2:41 a.m. Police found the smashed glass door as they responded to a burglary alarm there. Nothing appeared missing from the store. Damage was estimated at $350. A Wolf Den Lane woman reported the theft of more than $2,000 in possessions from her home, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Police said $500 in cash, a 12-gauge shotgun, a gold necklace, two gold rings and a silver ring were taken from her home between Oct. 1 and Oct. 14. A suspect named in the report has not been charged. A North Logan Street store is missing about $19 in change following a burglary. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone broke into the Miracle Hill Store, 1219 N. Logan St., between 8:30 p.m. Oct. 14 and 9:30 a.m. Oct. 15. A jar with loose change was the only item reported missing. A North Carolina man's vehicle was vandalized earlier this week while parked on Old Georgia Highway. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone slashed three tires on a 2005 Nissan Altima as it was parked in the 2100 block of Old Georgia Highway between 8:30 p.m. Oct. 14 and 7:30 a.m. Oct. 15. Damage was estimated at $375. A 48-year-old Chandler Drive man was arrested by the Gaffney Police Department on Oct. 15 after he allegedly stole beer and beef jerky from a grocery store. According to a police report, Jeffrey Steven Warren allegedly was observed on a security camera placing items in his coat while he was at the Food Lion on East Frederick Street. Police said they subsequently found him in possession of two 24 ounce cans of Schlitz beer, a halfeaten bag of beef jerky, and a can of Old Spice deodorant. A lost credit card was subsequently used 43 times to ring up roughly $7,000 in fraudulent purchases, according to a report at the Gaffney Police Department. Police said a Lowry's Road man lost the credit card during the summer and last used it at a restaurant near Prime Outlets — Gaffney. The man subsequently discovered, after being called by his credit card company, that someone had used the card for 40 purchases in Gaffney and three more purchases in Spartanburg, according to police. |
