Shady Grove Baptist Church, 712 Green River Road, will commemorate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Sunday, Oct, 19, during the 11 a.m. worship service. Tecora Wilburn, a retired educator from Spartanburg School District Six, will speak.
Southside Baptist Church, 204 W. O'Neal St., will have two guest speakers Sunday, Oct. 19. The Rev. John Goforth will preach at the 10:30 a.m. service and the Rev. Ron Jackson will preach and share about a new minister, "Parson's Pantry," at the 6 p.m. service.
New Heights Baptist Church will have revival services Oct. 19-22 at 7 p.m. Guest minister will be the Rev. Christina Whitehouse- Suggs. Rev. Whitehouse- Suggs received her B.A. degree from Gardner-Webb University and graduated from Campbell Divinity School with a Master of Divinity degree. She is associate coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of South Carolina.
Bethel Baptist Church will celebrate its 114th anniversary with a special service Sunday, Oct. 19, at 10:30 a.m. Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr., pastor, will deliver the anniversary message.
The Mixed Ensemble of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 21st anniversary Sunday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m.
Antioch Baptist Church will have an installation service for Pastor M. Alice Littlejohn Sunday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Joey Turner, pastor of Restoration Church of Gaffney.
Friendship Baptist Church, 250 Morning Drive, Spartanburg, will hold its annual Women's Day worship service Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. with Linda Worthy, associate minister of St. Paul Baptist Church, Union, as guest speaker.
Suck Creek Baptist Church's Women's Ministry will have its third annual "100 Women in Pink" service Sunday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Raymond Wilkins, husband of one of the 2007 breast cancer victim speakers, Robin Wilkins, will speak and will be accompanied by his church family from James Hopewell Baptist Church, Newberry. Christopher Dewberry, husband of Minister Juanita Dewberry of Bethel Baptist Church, and Robert Henderson of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Spartanburg, and widower of Minister Nicole Henderson, will also share their personal testimony.
Fall festivals
Buford Street United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church and Limestone Presbyterian Church will host a fall festival Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 5-7 p.m. in the parking lot between City Hall and Wachovia. Hot dog plates will be sold for $1 and activities include a moon bounce, giant slide, Velcro wall, obstacle course, rock wall, etc.
Macedonia Baptist Church will have a fall festival Saturday, Oct. 18, from 4-7 p.m. All proceeds will go to help families at Christmas. There will be a hot dog supper, bake sale, silent cake auction, country store, inflatables, rock wall, games, maze, hayride, entertainment and other activities.
Singings
Eastside Baptist Church, 284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will host its third Saturday night singing Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. Guests will be Soul Harvest, The Christianaires and The Hamptons.
Master Praise from Shelby will be in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Chesnee Gospel Music Center, 672 Greenlake Road. Call 828-223- 1514 for information.

Fund raisers
Cherokee Speedway will host its 24th annual Stick Elliott Memorial Race on Saturday, Oct. 18. Gates open at 5 p.m. and this is the first benefit for Cherokee County Meals on Wheels. Race fans are urged to come support Meals on Wheels.
The Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., will have a yard sale Saturday, Oct. 18, from 7-11 a.m. Proceeds from the yard sale will go to Leona Goodson, an employee who was injured in an accident.
Jack E. Daniel DAV Chapter 54 will have a "Forget-Me- Not" fund raiser Oct. 17-18 at Wal-Mart on Floyd Baker Boulevard.
Special events
South by South bluegrass band will perform Saturday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m. at Peachtree Centre.
Hejaz Shriners' fall ceremonial will be held in Gaffney this year. A ceremonial parade in downtown Gaffney will be on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. The parade will proceed down Limestone Street from Railroad Avenue to Thompson Park. The Cherokee County YMCA will have an open house launch party introducing two new fitness programs, Turbo Kick and Hip-Hop Hustle, on Monday, Oct. 20, from 8-10 a.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m. All fitness levels are welcome to take part in the kick boxing activities and "shake yo' booty" hip-hop dancing. Halloween events
Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department will have a haunted house Oct. 24-26 and Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 1 at 137 Blackwell Road in Blacksburg. Admission is $5. The fun begins at 7 p.m. For directions, call 864-839-4500.
The things of the night will gather at sundown at Bar H Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C., on Oct. 17-18, 24-25 and 31. The 2008 edition of the Bar H Haunted Hayride has new scares to test one's nerves and fears. A maze is also available for those who want to test their skills finding their way through darkness. Blacksburg Ladies Auxiliary 4941 will meet Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. at the Community Building in Blacksburg. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. All auxiliary members are urged to attend.
