Manager arrested

A manager for a local payday lender was arrested by the Gaffney Police Department this week on charges he cashed more than $27,000 in checks drawn on closed accounts.

Bradford Charles Benton, 33, of 1st Avenue, was charged with two counts of breach of trust and 12 counts of forgery, according to arrest warrants at the Gaffney Police Department.

Police contend in an incident report that Benton cashed 92 checks drawn on closed accounts between Sept. 1 and Oct. 13. The incident report lists the victim as Approved Cash Advance, 901 W. Floyd Baker Boulevard, and states that Benton worked as the manager there. Benton remained lodged at the Cherokee County Detention Center as of Thursday in lieu of $50,000 bond, according to online jail records.
