Ex-Indians clash, Strickland has big day for Wofford

This game pitted two former Gaffney High stars, center Brett Irvin and middle linebacker J.B. Shippy.
Shippy, a Georgia Southern freshman linebacker, assisted on two tackles.
Irvin helped clear the way for Appalachian State quarterback, Armanti Edwards, who had 333 of ASU's 454 total yards and scored all five touchdowns.
Edwards went flying over the Mountaineers' offensive line for a 1-yard touchdown run on fourth and goal with 2:36 left for the game-winning score.
Wofford College 42,
Western Carolina 14
Wofford senior receiver Andy Strickland (Gaffney) scored on a 74-yard run and a 29-yard pass to help Wofford improve to 5-1 this season. The Terriers took advantage of three first half Catamount turnovers, including two inside the Wofford 10-yard line, to take a 28-7 lead at the half.
Strickland scored two touchdowns for the second time this season. He was one of 13 players to carry the ball for Wofford in the game.
Strickland rushed twice for 75 yards and caught two passes for 39 yards. He returned one punt for 13 yards.
Catawba 37,
Tusculum 35
Catawba College scored 21 points in the third quarter to rally for a come-from-behind homecoming victory over Tusculum College Saturday afternoon. Tusculum linebacker Jarvis Littlejohn (Gaffney) led the defense with a dozen tackles, including three for loss.
Tusculum will host Newberry Saturday for the Pioneers' annual homecoming game, beginning at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
Gardner-Webb 47,
Presbyterian 21
Gardner-Webb's Philip Peoples ran for a career-high 176 yards , and the Bulldogs led 30-0 at the half en route to an easy 47-21 win over Presbyterian.
Nick Melton, who played at Gaffney High, caught two passes for 24 yards.
Gardner-Webb (3-4) rushed for a season-high 321 yards and three touchdowns as a team, and rolled up 514 yards of total offense.
(S.C. State did not play this weekend. Gaffney High products starting quarterback Malcolm Long and reserve linebacker Julius Wilkerson will be back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. against Hampton.)
