This license plate was among the items scattered about the scene of the fatal accident on Chesnee Highway. Two passengers in one of the vehicles involved in a horrific Tuesday afternoon traffic accident on Chesnee Highway remained hospitalized as of Thursday.

William Wyatt, 70, and Irene Wyatt, 71, both of Old Post Road, were listed in fair condition Thursday at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, according to a hospital spokesman.

Irene Wyatt was a front seat passenger and William Wyatt was sitting in the right rear seat of a Buick sedan being driven south on Chesnee Highway on Tuesday afternoon when a car coming in the opposite direction crossed into their lane of travel and struck the Buick almost head-on.

The driver of the Buick, 92-yearold Corine Tarver of Cooper Street, Gaffney, died early Wednesday morning at the Spartanburg hospital.

Also killed in the crash was 56- year-old Ernest Burr Jr., of Cherokee Ridge Road, who was headed north in a Honda sedan. He died en route to Upstate Carolina Medical Center, according to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler.

Autopsies showed both Tarver and Burr died from multiple blunt force body trauma, Fowler said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Burr's funeral is set for 2 p.m. today in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel.

A memorial service for Tarver is scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. at Central Baptist Church.
