Christmas assistance applications being taken

The Salvation Army and Department of Social Services are taking applications for Christmas assistance Oct. 27-31 from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. Those who need assistance with Christmas should visit the Salvation Army, 601 Colonial Ave., during these hours.

Persons applying for assistance need to bring the following information with them: proof of income for the last four weeks for all household members; Social Security cards for every household member and a picture ID of the person filling out the application; proof of all bills (this includes rent, mortgage, power, gas or water, insurance, finance companies, car payment, credit cards); proof of food stamps; and, if you are not working, proof that you are looking for a job. All this information must be provided; there are no exceptions.

The Christmas assistance is for children through age 12 only.

The Salvation Army and the Department of Social Services are the organizations that provide names to The Gaffney Ledger for the newspaper's Christmas Is For Kids project.
