Painting celebrates 4-H's 100 birthday Renowned artist Jim Harrison has partnered with South Carolina 4-H to produce a painting marking the organization's 100-year anniversary. The 12x16 prints, "4-H Barn," are for sale for $60 from the South Carolina 4-H office at 864- 656-3848. They are also available from 4-H agents and at Clemson extension offices through November. A portion of the sales price will benefit 4-H programs and scholarships, keeping South Carolina's 4- H going for another hundred years. Harrison is described as one of the nation's foremost chroniclers of earlier 20th Century rural life. His paintings are featured in personal and corporate art collections across the country and he has had successful one-man shows at Hammer Galleries in New York City and the Conacher Gallery in San Francisco. "Jim Harrison's art of rural barns represents the heart of American culture capturing a sense of the past. His new print captures the pride of 4-H members and alumni of belonging to the world's largest youth development program," said Shannon Herndon, Clemson extension 4-H agent. 4-H is a community of more than 6.5 million young people ages 5-19 across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H programs are available to young people in 50 states, U.S. territories and military installations worldwide. "4-H has a nostalgic ring to it that certainly goes back to my childhood remembrances," said Harrison. "So I was delighted when asked to do something that includes the 4-H symbol."
