COWPENS - Hubert Edward Phillips, 83, of 323 Swofford Drive, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

Born July 23, 1925, in Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Henry Jenkins and Millie Allie Price Phillips. He was retired from Draper after 45 years of service and was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thrift Phillips; a daughter, Sheila Wilkie and her husband, Lynn; a son, Eddie Phillips and his wife, Pam; and five grandchildren, April Wilkie, Michayla Dean, Zachary Phillips, Savannah Phillips and Luchas Phillips, all of Cowpens.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by five brothers, John Phillips, Howard Phillips, Wofford Phillips, Loyd Phillips and Quinton Phillips; and three sisters, Lois Clary, Myrtle Hayes Spencer and Vernette Mabry.

Services will be Monday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. in Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Terry Duvall. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 26, from 6-8 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department, 1749 Love Springs Road, Gaffney, S.C. 29341; or to Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund, 216 Macedonia Road, Gaffney, S.C. 29341.
