WHAT'S UP Fund raiser A benefit concert to raise funds to help with medical expenses for Pam Hester, a multiple sclerosis patient, will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, beginning at 7 p.m. at Gardner Webb University's Blanton Auditorium (located in the Hamrick Building). Featured groups at the gospel-bluegrass concert will be Dunkleman, Dunkleman, Jones, Flint Hill and Joe Collins, all of Shelby, and The Bledsoes of Mt. Airy, N.C. Admission is by donation only with a suggested donation of $8 per person. All proceeds will go to Mrs. Hester. Church news Cherokee Creek Baptist Church, 502 Buck Shoals Road, will have its first Rev. John R. and Annie M. Ruppe Fall Revival beginning Sunday, Nov. 2. Services on Founder's Day will begin at 10 a.m. with Sunday School. The worship service will begin at 10:45 a.m. with the pastor, Mike Frazier, speaking. Following the worship service, dinner will be served in the fellowship building. Revival services will begin Sunday at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Bobby Earls speaking and will continue each evening at 7 p.m. through Wednesday, Nov. 5. Faith Baptist Church, 246 Ford Road, Gaffney, will worship with Mitchell Chapel F.B.H. Church, 424 Dr. Rosemond Lane, on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 5 p.m. The Rev. D. Blanton is pastor of Faith Baptist Church and Dr. E.D. Lawson is pastor of Mitchell Chapel. Everyone welcome. White Plains Baptist Church Missionaries will have their annual prayer breakfast program Saturday, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m. Minister Teresa Black of New Salem Zion Baptist Church will be the special guest. The Rev. James Patton Jr., pastor, invites everyone to attend. The Voice of Triumph's annual fall camp meeting will be held Oct. 29-31 at 7 p.m. with morning services Thursday and Friday at 10. The evening speaker will be evangelist Gordon Stacy of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., with various speakers at the morning services. There is free lodging and meals available at the campground for the entire three days. A free will offering will be received at each service. Bethel Baptist Church's youth choir will celebrate its 37th anniversary Sunday, Nov. 2, at 5 p.m. with a singing program. Various choirs and groups from the surrounding area will be on the program. Everyone welcome. Fall festivals Open Door Baptist Church, 229 Edgewater Drive, will have a free drop-in fall festival Friday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. There will be food, fun and games. Corinth Baptist Church, 190 Corinth Road, will hold a fall festival Friday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. There will be hot dogs, large inflatables, a cake walk and small games with prizes. Kids will be able to "Trunk-or-Treat." Bring the entire family to this safe Halloween alternative. Special events The public is invited to a South Carolina Heart Gallery Exhibit at Macedonia Baptist Church, 216 Macedonia Road, on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The Heart Gallery is a national project that uses the power of photography to find adoptive homes for children lingering in foster care. Participating partners include the Cherokee County DSS, Specialized Foster Home Services, Region 1 Adoption, Guardian Ad Litem, Foster Care Review Board, Wendy's Wonderful Kids and Open Arms Foster Parents Association. The event is hosted by Macedonia Baptist Church and Open Arms Foster Parents Association. The Grassy Pond stump meeting will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, beginning at 5 p.m. Grassy Pond Fire Department, 168 School Road, near Grassy Pond Elementary School, will have an open house on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Visitors will get to see fire equipment and meet the volunteers who protect the community. Along with free refreshments, there will be a fire safety trailer and other activities for children and equipment demonstrations. Meetings Democratic Women will meet Monday, Nov. 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Thomson Park for its traditional John Spratt hot dog supper. The event is open to the public. Red Cross classes The American Red Cross, Cherokee County Service Center, will be conducting the following community courses: Adult CPR and Standard First Aid, Monday, Nov. 3, 6-10 p.m. (fee); Infant and Child CPR, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 6-10 p.m. (fee); Dog First Aid, Tuesday, Nov. 11, 9 a.m.-noon (fee). Course fees go to support disaster services in Cherokee County. A free Home Disaster Preparedness class will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m.- 10 a.m. with free smoke detectors, radios and water jugs will be distributed to those attending. All classes will be at the American Red Cross Service Center, 405 N. Logan St. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required.
