POLICE REPORT

A vandal used a brick to smash the windows on three vehicles on East Frederick Street.

According to the Gaffney Police Department, the damage occurred at Ed's Automotive in the 200 block between 5 p.m. Oct. 21 and Oct. 22. Someone used a brick to smash windows on a 1992 Chevrolet sedan, a 1995 Oldsmobile sedan and a 1985 Nissan sedan. There was no estimate listed for the damage.

An 18-year-old woman and 21-year-old man were both charged with the burglary of a Barclay Avenue home and causing more than $1,000 in malicious damage to the property.

According to the Gaffney Police Department, an officer was dispatched to a home in the 400 block on Oct. 25 and learned from the property owner that someone had gained entry to the home through a window. The home was being remodeled.

Once inside, police said, the burglars poured several gallon cans of paint throughout the home on floors and newlypainted walls, and damaged several televisions.

One of the burglars left footprints in the paint which police said they were able to match to the shoes of 18-year-old Catalina Peterson, of Maggie Drive, who was stopped by police on North Limestone street along with 21-year-old Justin Michael Evans, also of Maggie Drive.

Police said Peterson's shoes had blue and white paint on them and she also had blue paint in her hair that matched the color of the paint in the Barclay Avenue home.

After being read their rights, police said Evans told them that Peterson had crawled through the window and let him inside the home by unlocking the door. He told police she then threw paint around the house. Damage was estimated at about $2,000.

Someone tried to burglarize an old Metal Road home on Oct. 25, according to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

An unknown person attempted to pry open a back door on a home in the 1100 block but succeeded only in bending the door without gaining access. Door damage was estimated at $500.

The Gaffney Police Department reported the theft of a string trimmer from a Race Street property.

The Troy Built string trimmer, valued at $150, was apparently taken from a home in the 400 block between 7 p.m. Oct. 26 and 5:30 p.m. Oct. 27.

Cash and prescription medications were stolen from a vehicle parked outside a North Granard Street business Oct. 27.

According to the Gaffney Police Department, someone entered a vehicle parked outside the Family Dollar between 11:45 a.m. and 11:55 a.m. and took two prescription drugs, including the drug Percocet, as well as $360 in cash.

A trucker from Pennsylvania reported the theft of his wallet and a cell phone while he was sleeping in his cab at a Blacksburg truck stop Oct. 26.

Sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 4 a.m., the trucker said someone entered his cab and took his wallet containing $500 cash, a driver's license and miscellaneous paperwork, as well as a cell phone while he was sleeping outside the Wilco Travel Plaza. The theft losses are estimated at $893.

Reebok tennis shoes and a vehicle owner's manual were stolen Oct. 26 from a car parked outside the Wal-Mart in Gaffney, the Gaffney Police Department was told.

A Gaffney woman told police someone entered her 2000 Ford Explorer and took the shoes and vehicle manual between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Those were the only items missing. Theft losses are estimated at $80.

More than $600 was stolen from vending machines and a safe at the Interstate 85 rest stop in the southbound lane near Blacksburg.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the thefts occurred between 4 p.m. Oct. 24 and 9:30 a.m. Oct. 25. There were no signs of forced entry to the vending machines or the office safe.

The Gaffney Police Department reported the theft of a stove and air conditioning unit from a rental home on Willow Street.

According to police, an unknown person broke a window on a door to gain entry to the home in the 400 block between 5 p.m. Oct. 23 and 10:45 a.m. Oct. 26. The stove and air conditioning unit are valued at $750.

A John McCain supporter reported the vandalism of a campaign sign Oct. 24.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone torched a McCain/Palin sign in the front yard of a home on Springwood Drive. No other damage was reported.

The Gaffney Police Department reported the theft of scales and a credit card transaction machine from a city business.

Police said someone took the items from Allison's Produce between 6 p.m. Oct. 25 and 10:50 a.m. Oct. 27. Entry likely was made by scaling a fence. Nothing else appeared to be missing.

A catalytic converter was stolen from a truck parked on North Mountain Road in Blacksburg, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

The auto part was taken while the truck was parked outside a home in the 1000 block between 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 and 5:45 a.m. Oct. 27. The part is valued at about $300.
