Brookview hosts annual fall festival
      The sounds of children's laughter and squeals of delight rang out at Brookview Healthcare Center on Saturday, Oct. 25, as Brookview hosted its third annual fall festival. Bernie and the Major 7s had the residents' and guests' hands clapping and feet tapping to a variety of music while children were treated to many fun games, including a craft zone and giant slide.

      Dear Annie: I loved your answer to "Larry is Losing," whose wife is coddling her 30-year-old daughter, enabling her to be irresponsible and immature by doing her laundry, fixing her meals and cleaning up after her dogs. You're so very right to say this mother is actually being selfish. She is filling her own emotional need to be needed.

First Baptist is a relay center for Operation Christmas Child
      First Baptist Church of Gaffney is again this year a relay center for Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse. National collection week is set for Nov. 17-23. A truck will be parked near the church's playground. Collection hours will be Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. until noon; and Sunday, 2-6 p.m.

Prime Outlets plans trick-or-treat event
      A fun and safe Halloween "spook-tacular" trick-or-treat event will be held today from 6-8 p.m. at Prime Outlets Gaffney. Kids ages 15 and younger are invited to pick up a free trick-or-treat bag and a free Tum-E Yummie at the Guest Services Center in the food court. Participating stores will also be giving out Halloween treats to kids 15 and younger.

Calling 'Dr. Avery'…
     The Blacksburg Public Library had a Halloween party and costume contest for kids Wednesday afternoon. First place in the costume contest went to Avery Alexander for his portrayal of "Dr. Avery." Josh Carpenter, also known as "The Incredible Hulk," took second place while "Superman" Brandon McBride received third place.

      Halloween events Nine downtown Gaffney merchants will host "Trunk or Treat on Limestone" today from 5-7 p.m. Jeff Gates will entertain with music for children and Susan Sarratt will tell stories beginning at 5 p.m. There will be lots of candy and treats for children and prizes will be awarded to the decorated trunks for oldest, silliest, scariest, etc.

     ARC HEROES FUND RAISER - A Kut Above Styling Salon is sponsoring an American Red Cross Heroes Club fund raiser on Monday, Nov. 3, from 5-7 p.m. This "happy hour" will include free refreshments, skin analysis, stress survey and hair cuts. Those attending need only donate a minimum of $5 to the Cherokee County Red Cross to participate in the fun event. Other business sponsors are Aegean Pizza, Wishes Family Travel, S.C.       Red Cross classes The American Red Cross, Cherokee County Service Center, will be conducting the following community courses: Adult CPR and Standard First Aid, Monday, Nov. 3, 6-10 p.m. (fee); Infant and Child CPR, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 6-10 p.m. (fee); Dog First Aid, Tuesday, Nov, 11, 9 a.m.-Noon (fee). Course fees go to support disaster services in Cherokee County.
