Red Cross classes

The American Red Cross, Cherokee County Service Center, will be conducting the following community courses: Adult CPR and Standard First Aid, Monday, Nov. 3, 6-10 p.m. (fee); Infant and Child CPR, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 6-10 p.m. (fee); Dog First Aid, Tuesday, Nov, 11, 9 a.m.-Noon (fee). Course fees go to support disaster services in Cherokee County. A free Home Disaster Preparedness class will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m.- 10 a.m. with free smoke detectors, radios and water jugs will be distributed to those attending. All classes will be at the American Red Cross Service Center, 405 N. Logan St. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required. To register, call (864) 489-6066.

Special events

Grassy Pond Fire Department, 168 School Road, will have an open house on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Visitors will get to see fire equipment and meet the volunteers who protect the community. Along with free refreshments, there will be a fire safety trailer and other activities for children and equipment demonstrations.
