S.C. House of Representatives District 30
Phillips seeks re-election to House
Phillips It has been my honor and pleasure to represent the citizens of District #30 in the S. C. House of Representatives for the past thirty years. During that time, I have consistently worked on behalf of conservative, fiscally responsible government. I rank #2 in seniority in the S.C. House of Representatives. My colleagues seek and respect my expertise, knowledge and advice.
I am seeking re-election for this important position. I believe that the taxpayers of this state need a strong and effective voice in our legislature, one who is not afraid to express his views and one who is willing to take a stand on the issues and fight for that position. I try to read all the bills that come before us, in order to understand the effect they will have on our citizens.
I serve on the prestigious Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee. My sub-committees are Public Utilities and Real Estate. I also serve as Chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee to Screen Candidates for Boards of Trustees of State Colleges and Universities. I am the previous Chairman of the Education and Public Works Committee and Aviation Subcommittee Chairman.
I have consistently voted against tax increases, and my record reflects that fact. I have done so not out of opposition to needed improvements in our governmental system, but it is my feeling that we can improve without footing the bill for bigger and bigger government.
During the next few years, the State of S. C. will be put to a severe test in meeting the needs of its people, especially in the economy, education of our children and care of the elderly. I want to continue to use my experience and influence to work on behalf of better, not bigger government.
I am a businessman and I know what it means to operate on a balanced budget and to live within your means. That is the kind of philosophy I intend to continue in the House of Representatives—because I believe it reflects the best interests of the people of District 30 and the State of South Carolina.
One other important thing that I plan to continue is to make myself available and accessible to all citizens. I know something about getting along with people, helping people and getting people to work together. Being a legislator is more than just going to Columbia three days a week. Serving our citizens is a full time job. I have made myself available to my constituents, whenever possible. I am always available to help with your problems, whatever they may be. Telephone calls and letters are promptly answered. I take pride in giving good constituent service to everyone and I am always willing to meet with anyone to help him or her with their ideas or problems regardless of party affiliation. I am very accessible and you can see or call me without any kind of appointment.
Thank you, Olin Phillips
