Says CLOUT is running a negative campaign
      Dear Editor: A group calling themselves CLOUT has been running a negative campaign for weeks against a company (Waste Management) that is trying to get the required county council approval to proceed with a modern state-of-the-art facility that would focus on recycling and jobs.

We need the Waste Management project
      Dear Editor: What's wrong with recycling? The only thing I read from the "anti- Waste Management" crowd is that they are against a "garbage dump." Waste Management is not proposing a dump for Cherokee County. Waste Management is proposing 3Cycle, a high-tech, innovative approach to managing waste, which will be the first of its kind in the state.

We must remember this is also a recycling center
      Dear Editor: Determination is a powerful "quality" but at what cost? I see the determination of the people of the McKowns Mountain area. Yet I am for the Waste Management Recycling/Landfill. There is a greater good in this project. Not wanting it "in my backyard," is not good enough for the citizens of Cherokee County.

      Dear Editor: Senator Harvey Peeler's letter of Oct. 22 was greatly appreciated by me and my family. I am a native of Cherokee County - the McKowns Mountain/Sardis Church Community. I am also a property owner and taxpayer in this community. My husband, children and I are restoring my family's homeplace on Sardis Road.

We cannot sacrifice the health of our residents
      Dear Editor: Landfills emit toxic and dangerous gases such as methane and mercury. Some of these toxic substances escape through the surrounding soil or just move upward into the atmosphere. Landfill gases that escape carry along toxic chemicals such as paint thinner, solvents, pesticides and other volatile organic compounds.
