Five recent GHS grads named AP Scholars Valedictorian Madison McCraw was among five recent Gaffney High graduates named AP Scholars for their exceptional achievement on college exams. The College Board annually recognizes students who pass multiple Advanced Placement exams for college credit. About 18 percent of the world's 1.6 million high school students scored well enough to be named AP Scholars this year. McCraw received the AP Scholar with Distinction Award. Students earn the award with a grade of 3 or higher on five exams, or an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken. Four Gaffney High students were named AP Scholars for successfully completing three or more AP exams. They are Brandi Crowe, Cecilia Hopping, Craig Sanders and Hannah Wood. "We are very proud these students were successful this year and able to earn college credit while still in high school," Gaffney High guidance counselor Kaye Spearman said. South Carolina has not yet released Advanced Placement scores for individual high schools this year. Many colleges and universities award college credit for student success on AP exams. More than 1,400 schools nationally award a full year's credit so students can enroll as college sophomores by earning enough advanced placement credits. Gaffney High is currently offering 10 Advanced Placement classes. These subjects include English, calculus, U.S. History, government, economics and studio art. |
