Lawsuit filed A mother and daughter have filed civil lawsuits against a Gaffney business for what they claim are injuries they sustained in an assault they contend could have been prevented. According to two separate lawsuits filed in the Cherokee County Courthouse, Sylvia Christy Humprhries arrived for work Sept. 2 at Cathuplas Inc. and allegedly was assaulted by a male co-worker as she was getting out of a car. Humphries claims she was twisted and punched, causing her to fall and injure her left knee and back. Her mother, Sherry Carol Humphries, claims in a separate lawsuit that she was assaulted while trying to come to her daughter's aid. She claims she, too, was caused to fall to the ground, twisting her lower extremities and injuring her back. The lawsuits claim Cathuplas Inc. was negligent in failing to warn the women of danger because, the suit claims, the man who allegedly assaulted the women had told another worker of his plans. The co-worker with advanced knowledge of the plans allegedly informed a supervisor, the suit claims, but no action was taken to stop the incident from happening, the suit contends. Sherry and Sylvia Humphries are each seeking unspecified damages on four counts of negligence. Sylvia Humphries' suit also seeks damages on a fifth count that alleges she was the victim of retaliatory discharge on Sept. 15. Both are represented by Attorney Albert Smith. |
