Mobile home destroyed by fire
Grassy Pond, Cherokee Creek and City of Gaffney Firefighters spent about three hours Thursday night battling a blaze at 136 Park Place Road and knocking down hot spots once the fire was extinguished. Despite their efforts the fast-moving blaze gutted the home. No one was injured. Firefighters from three local departments rushed to a working fire on Park Place Road off Whelchel Road late Thursday but were unable to save a mobile home.
Heavy smoke and flames greeted firefighters upon their arrival and it was initially unclear if anyone was inside based on emergency calls from neighbors. Luckily, firefighters said no one was inside the home or injured in the blaze at 136 Park Place Road.
The home was owned by Glenn and Tabatha Hadden.
Firefighters said the origin appeared to be an area a short distance away from the kitchen where a computer was located.
During an investigation of the fire's cause, fire officials worked to rule out possible sources of ignition and the only one they could not rule out was electrical. Such fire loss could likely be prevented with residential sprinkler systems, one fire official noted.
Grassy Pond Volunteer Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Cherokee Creek Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Gaffney's Overbrook Station.
