Wants more accurate deer/vehicle collision count

Dear Editor:

I know the number of deer collisions is only what is reported to the law enforcement or to the DNR, but on Corinth Road alone last year I would say there were at least 20 or more deer laying dead along the road from cars running into or over them last year.

There has already been four or five this year since deer season opened. The numbers the DNR has is only the numbers that are reported.

I know very well that with all the deer laying on the roadsides in Cherokee County that there are far more than two deer collided with cars in God's country last year.

Someone should start counting the ones just laying along the sides of the road in our county. I don't think these deer are just walking out to the sides of our roads and deciding this looks like a good place to die and laying down there and letting this be their final resting place.

These are deer which have been hit by cars attempting to cross our roads and unfortunately didn't make it and no one bothered to report it to the proper agency.

More than likely the car had no damage or, which is probably the more likely case, the driver of the vehicle was or had been drinking and cannot call the law so they just kept going. Kevin Leary Gaffney, S.C.
