Voters OK sale of gas company

      It wasn't the most difficult decision to make on their ballot, but Blacksburg residents gave their stamp of approval regarding the town's proposed sale of its natural gas company. Approximately 542 Blacksburg taxpayers voted on the referendum, with 63 percent voting in favor of the sale of the municipally-owned utility.

Gaffney man struck in head by stray bullet

      Cherokee County Sheriff's Office investigators spent several hours in southwest Cherokee County on Tuesday afternoon after a young man was accidentally struck in the head by a bullet. The victim, Tony Ray Mabry Jr., 25, of 112 Massey Drive, was flown by helicopter to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center from a landing zone set up behind Goucher Elementary School.

VFW Post 4941 will sell Buddy Poppies Nov. 7-8
      BLACKSBURG - Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 and its Ladies Auxiliary will be distributing Buddy Poppies on Nov. 7-8 in honor of Veterans Day on Nov. 11. The post and auxiliary will be in and around Blacksburg at the Piggy Wiggly, Hardee's, Mcdonald's Flying J, Exxon and in Grover at Hickory Point.

POLICE REPORT
      The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating two separate incidents of young children coming into contact with hard drugs. Both of the incidents resulted from complaints filed by the Cherokee County Department of Social Services.
