Edith (Edie Bug) Burgess

Retired home economist for Clemson University Home Extension Service

Edith Louise Burgess, 82, formerly of 2609 Union Hwy., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Brookview Healthcare Center.

Born in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late William Frank (W. F.) Burgess and Rosa Medley Burgess. She was a retired home economist for Clemson University Home Extension Service, where she worked for over 38 years. After retiring from Clemson, she was a secretary at Hames Music for 18 years. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

She is survived by nine nephews, two nieces, and numerous great- and greatgreat nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Brockman Burgess, Arthur Burgess, Walton Burgess and James Burgess; and two sisters, Oradell Spencer and Nona Hames Wiedemann.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 2-3 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home. Services immediately followed at 3 p.m. in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dwight Easler officiating. Interment was in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church "Renovation Fund," 190 Corinth Road, Gaffney, S.C. 29340; or to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 S. Pine St., Spartanburg, S.C. 29302.

The family will be at the home of Jimmy and Iris Burgess, 2613 Union Hwy.
