Dear Editor: I am a lifelong resident of the McKowns Mountain area and opposed to the Waste Management landfill proposed for our community. I would like to respond to viewpoints published in The Ledger last week. First of all, we find that there are actually "landfill supporters." What a novel concept! What exactly do they support? The stink? More ... Dear Editor: I lived in McKowns Mountain Community in my early years and my family still lives there. My first ancestors in the area settled on the south side of Broad River at Abingdon Creek in 1768. I am concerned about the future of the community and pray no landfill will be placed there. More ... Dear Editor: I do not believe the increase in sales tax in Cherokee County was a good thing. The people who disagree with me are the ones who are profiting from the property tax cuts. When you look at property tax, it links to the school system. Our schools are funded by our property taxes and a decrease in tax is a decrease in funds towards the schools. More ...
