Essie Mae Hollis
Essie Mae Hollis, 75, of 110 Carver St., widow of Jimmy James Hollis, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at 12:20 a.m. at her home.
Daughter of the late Freeman Byars and the late Marie Smith Byars, she was born May 24, 1933, in Gaffney and was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church, where she was a member of the kitchen committee. She was retired from Alcoa Building Products.
Surviving are two daughters, Margie Hollis and Terry McCluney of Gaffney; two sons, Jimmy Calvin Hollis of the home and Eddie Dean Hollis of Gaffney; three sisters, Avillia Smith of Baltimore, Md., Peola Wilson of Philadelphia, Pa., and Lenoria Weeks of Gaffney; two brothers, Rochelle Byars of Fayetteville, N.C., and Elkins Byars of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
