Sorority makes plans for November projects
Xi Alpha Delta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Monday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. at the home of Hazel Abernathy with Shirley Addis as co-hostess.
Patty Greene, president, called the meeting and Addis led the opening ritual. Ruth Ann Ohlsen gave the roll call and 12 members were present. Minutes from October's meeting were read and approved.
Greene discussed correspondence from Beta Sigma Phi International and the treasurer's report was given by Shirley Turner.
The group's projects for this month are a women's cosmetics party on Nov. 22 at 2:30 p.m. The sorority will receive a percentage of the proceeds. Each member also gave a designated donation that is collected twice a year to help the organization fund its projects.
The service for November will be a donation to Meals on Wheels to purchase Thanksgiving fruit. The sorority will also attend a dinner for Harbor of Hope on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m.
Following the business session, a program was presented on how to improve one's musical listening skills. Several selections were played on a self-player piano owned by the hostess. She has accumulated approximately 60 to 70 old "pop" tunes and several were played, including "Peg of My Heart," "Second Hand Rose," "Frankie and Johnny" and "Alexander's Ragtime Band."
A short business meeting and Christmas party will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Four Seasons in Spartanburg
