Blacksburg Middle repeats as conference champions

STAFF REPORTS

The Blacksburg Middle School football players were the ones celebrating - again - after the championship game.

Nick Hames scored three touchdowns in the first half as Blacksburg Middle beat Mabry 26-8 Thursday to capture its second consecutive conference championship.

Hames returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown. Tim Stephenson added the 2-point conversion to give the Wildcats an 8-0 advantage.

On the Wildcats' next possession, Hames had a 54-yard touchdown run.

Hames then intercepted a Mabry pass and returned it 46 yards for another touchdown for a 20-0 halftime lead.

Quarterback Treyvone Parker threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Terrell Allen for the Wildcats' only second half score.

Taylor Raines, Dylan Hawkins, Ethan Snipes and Jeremy Holden all played well defensively for Blacksburg.

Blacksburg Middle finished the year with an 8-0 record and won its second consecutive Foothills Athletic Conference Championship.

"We're happy for our coaching staff, our school, our community, and especially our kids," Blacksburg Middle football coach Toby Elliott said. "Our offense scored an average of 38 points per football game while the defense gave up an average of only six points per game."

Parker, Hames, Holden and Tim Stephenson were named to the allregion team.

Daryl Sanders, Dustin Kite and Marc King are assistants on Elliott's staff.

The Wildcats have five out of the last nine conference championships, while compiling a 53-17 overall record.
