The Summerville Green Wave sure could use some more A.J. Greens.

Legendary Green Wave coach John McKissick said this year's team is missing the tall, big-play receiver like prep All-America A.J. Green, who is making a big splash this season as a freshman for the University of Georgia.

"We don't have the big receiver like we had in the past," McKissick said.

The Green Wave's leading receiver is 5-10 running back Tyler Veronee with 29 receptions for 405 yards. Kevin Baker, at 5-10, is the team's second-leading receiver with 19 catches for 217 yards.

McKisskick said his team is struggling heading into the playoff opener Friday against Gaffney.

"We aren't playing very good," he said.

Summerville had its hands full against winless Colleton County before escaping with a 19-14 win.

"We only played two good games all year," McKissick said. "We beat Goose Creek (38-22) and Beaufort 27- 6). Other than those games we are just getting by."

Despite McKissick's candid assessment, the Green Wave are just a couple of points away from being undefeated.

The Green Wave dropped their opener 21-20 to Conway and lost to Irmo 16-14.

McKissick said Gaffney seems to be hitting the playoffs on the uptick.

"I think Gaffney is playing very well," he said. "They played very well against a good Northwestern team."
