Lady Saints

advance in tourney

Behind freshman Nina Milovanovic's team high 18 kills and 19 digs, Limestone moved past St. Andrews, 3-1 (25-18, 25- 20, 24-26, 25-20), to advance to the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas volleyball tournament.

The Lady Saints overall record improves to 19-12, while St. Andrews completes its year with a 13-20 record.

Limestone jumped out early, grabbing hold of the first set, but nearly let the second set get away. With a 21-11 deficit, St Andrews rattled off a 7-1 run to tighten the set at 22-18; but Limestone would hold on for a 2-0 set lead.

The third set found the Lady Knights in control with an 8 point lead, yet the Lady Saints were able to tie the score at 24. St. Andrews would not be denied, however, and took the extended set 26-24.

In what would be the final set, the two teams battled back and forth.

With the scored tied at 15, Limestone coach Tim Loesch was issued a warning, which rallied his team as they went on a 5-0 run to take the lead 20-15. Senior Samantha Flannery would put the finishing touches on the match, with her fourth block for a 25-20 match point.

"St. Andrews played at a level that forced us to be at our best." Loesch said. "I am proud of how hard the team played, fighting for every point. We were almost able to come back in the third, but I think that energy carried us through the fourth set."

Junior Melissa Thomas trailed Milovanovic with 16 kills, while Flannery and senior Lynn Milam each added 6 kills. Senior Candace Robertson contributed 4 kills.

Junior Brooke England tallied 16 digs, with junior Chelsea Anthony and Thomas recording 13 digs and 12 digs, respectively.

Anthony would also add a match high 5 aces. Freshman Danielle Seibert had an efficient 39 assists, running the Limestone offense.

With the victory, third seeded Limestone earns a trip to the conference semifinals, at Lees-McRae College, to take on second seeded Anderson College.

The match will be played at 4 p.m. today, following the match between fifth seeded Mount Olive College and first seed Pfeiffer University. The championship match will be held in Banner Elk, N.C. at 1 p.m.
