Rev. Johnny Littlejohn

Former Baptist minister; retired from Timken Co

The Rev. Johnny H. Littlejohn, 87, of 223 Camellia Circle, husband of Azalee T. Littlejohn, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at 3:20 a.m. at his home.

Born March 11, 1921, in Gaffney, he was the son of the late George Littlejohn and the late Mollie Montgomery Littlejohn. He was first married to Essie Mae Littlejohn and to them seven children were born. She preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 1991, and he remarried in 1998.

Rev. Littlejohn was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. After being called to the ministry, he served as pastor of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Gaffney, Cuming Street Baptist in Spartanburg, Light Oak Baptist in Shelby, Mt. Rowell Baptist in Union, Fairview Baptist in Chester and Mt. Zion Baptist in Kings Mountain. He retired in 1985 from The Timken Co. and was a former employee of the Cherokee County schools. He was a member of the NAACP and a U.S. Army veteran.

Also surviving are two sons, Larry Littlejohn of Gaffney and Elbrett Bernard Littlejohn of Orlando, Fla.; four daughters, Patricia Kennerson of Norfolk, Va., Vivian Spencer of Ft. Washington, Md., Alice Wilkins of Gaffney, Donna Jenkins of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Bobby Littlejohn of Spartanburg; 14 grandchildren, two of whom were reared as his sons, Charles Anthony Wade of Jacksonville, Fla., and George Vincent Wade of Gaffney; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; stepmother, Christine Littlejohn of Gaffney; step sister, Margie Knuckles of Gaffney; and a niece who was reared as a sister, Annie Grace Dawkins of Jamaica Queens, New York.

The family is at the home. Arrangements by Foster Funeral Home.
